The Bubble Has Burst. It’s Time to Stop Waiting.
March 13, 2025 | Mindset & Personal Growth
A few months ago, I had a conversation with a friend who had just been laid off. He was waiting for hiring freezes to lift, for companies to start hiring again.
“I’ll just hold out,” he said. “Things will turn around.”
But what if they don’t?
I’ve watched too many talented professionals sitting on the sidelines, waiting for “normal” to return. But the truth is—normal isn’t coming back.
Companies aren’t just pausing hiring; they’re rethinking how they operate. AI, automation, and outsourcing are reducing the need for large, permanent workforces. The FTE model—the idea that every company needs a huge number of full-time employees—is breaking.
For decades, success was measured by headcount. A growing workforce meant a growing company. But that old metric no longer holds.
I’ve seen this shift coming for years. Outsourcing began pushing entire departments offshore long before the pandemic. Then, the massive hiring spree of 2021-2022 created bloated workforces, and now we’re seeing the inevitable contraction. But this time, companies aren’t just cutting fat—they’re redesigning the entire system.
They don’t want fixed costs anymore. They want flexibility. They don’t need an army of full-time employees when contractors, consultants, and AI can deliver better results with less overhead.
But here’s the thing: work hasn’t disappeared. Companies still need expertise. They still need solutions. They just aren’t always hiring full-time employees to get them.
The professionals who are thriving aren’t waiting. They’re adapting.
They’re contracting, consulting, launching their own small firms. They’re packaging their skills differently. They’re positioning themselves as specialists, not employees.
If you’re looking for work, stop waiting for the past to return. Look at where the market is actually going.
The opportunity isn’t gone—it’s just changed.
The question is: Will you change with it?

I recently shared my thoughts on why fractional work and consulting are becoming crucial in today’s job market. The conversation sparked some great insights—join the discussion on LinkedIn here.
